A prominent transportation executive with over 40 years of experience, Clarence Gooden was recently appointed president of CSX Corporation. In this capacity, he is responsible for sales, marketing, and operations. Previously, he was executive vice president and chief commercial officer. During his time with CSX, Clarence Gooden has developed a transportation portfolio valued at $11 billion and helped the company become a leader in freight rail and logistics services.
In addition to managing approximately 30 field offices in locations throughout the world, Mr. Gooden has worked hard to refocus CSX as a customer-centric organization. To accomplish his mission of championing the voice of the customer, he developed a customer satisfaction survey and oversaw the creation of customer councils. He also spearheaded a broad customer site assessment project and promoted the development of electronic resources for customer-facing divisions.
To improve organizational efficiency at CSX, Clarence Gooden implemented a ground level-driven commercial training program, partnered with higher-level education programs, and remained firmly committed to ongoing development and training. He works hard to improve service on a continual basis, primarily by expanding intermodal service offerings and bringing a renewed focus to reinvestments and asset utilization. Over a 10-year period, Mr. Gooden has helped CSX achieve a cumulative revenue growth of more than $4 billion, which represents a growth rate of more than 50 percent.
Aside from his work with CSX, Mr. Gooden serves on the board of directors of the National Freight Transportation Association and the TTX Corporation.
